Kling 4.0 opens a limited Flash preview on 28 September 2026 and goes live in October. Here is what Kuaishou listed and how I would try it.

Try AI video generation
A marketer at a night desk reviews a Kling 4.0 Flash preview on a laptop beside printed storyboard stills and a 30 second timeline note

Kling 4.0 is Kuaishou's next video model. On 28 September 2026, Sina Finance's 7x24 desk reported that Kling AI said the full model goes live in October, and that a Flash sibling opened a small preview the same day. I checked kling.ai the next morning. The public homepage still led with the Kling 3.0 series. That gap is the whole brief: the name is out, Flash is limited, and October is the public date.

If you want to try Kling 4.0 this week, look for Flash access first. If you cannot get in, keep generating on a live model and save the same brief for October. I would not pay a third-party page that only pastes the version number.

Is the new Kling model released yet

Not as a public default on the official site. The 28 September flash is an announcement plus a limited Flash preview, not a claim that every account can generate with it today.

I treat three states as different jobs:

  • Announced. Kuaishou named the 4.0 family and set October for the formal launch.
  • Flash preview. A smaller, faster sibling opened to a limited group on 28 September.
  • Public default. That is the October event. Until kling.ai, the app, or the API list 4.0 in a live selector, I do not brief a campaign as if the model is already in production.

The Kling 3.0 launch note from 5 February 2026 is still the last major family with a full investor-grade write-up. Native 4K later landed on that 3.0 line, which is why people mix “4K” with “4.0.” They are not the same thing.

What did Kuaishou announce for this version

I am using the Sina flash as the primary list, and a same-day Sohu write-up as a second Chinese report. I have not seen a matching English post on the Kling blog yet.

KeyframesMulti-shot / custom multi-shotSohu also lists up to 10 keyframes

The 30 second cap is the change I care about first. Kling 3.0's official VIDEO 3.0 guide still frames a single generation as 3 to 15 seconds. Doubling that is the difference between a hook and a short scene with a turn.

The mixed input list is the second change. Ten stills, five clips, and seven subjects in one task is a continuity brief, not a one-line prompt. I would only load that stack when the product, the talent, and the location already exist as files.

Sohu also stresses more stable camera moves on large action. I will believe that after I run a handheld follow and a crane-style rise on the same subject. Launch copy always promises smoother motion.

I am not copying third-party pages that add 8K, two-minute clips, or a price. Those numbers are not in the Sina flash.

How do you try Kling 4.0 this week

If your Kling account shows Flash, use that. If it does not, you cannot force a public try button that is not there.

This is the path I would run:

  1. Open kling.ai and look for the 4.0 family or Flash in the model list. Do not trust a bookmark from last month.
  2. If Flash is present, run one 5 to 8 second test, not a 30 second hero. Confirm the model name on the output card before you spend a longer clip.
  3. If Flash is missing, keep the same brief on a live generator. On Wizstar I still start from the Kling 3.0 model page or the AI video generator, then replay the brief in October.
  4. Ignore any site that sells an “official” 4.0 seat without showing the underlying model ID. A label is not a contract.

When you do get in, use the new model on a job the 15 second cap used to break: a product walk around a table, a talent crossing a room with a turn, or a two-beat dialogue. Write the beat times in the prompt. “At 0 to 8 seconds… at 8 to 20 seconds…” is more useful than another adjective.

I would not run a first test on a paid ad that names a health or finance claim. New models drift. The FTC advertising guidance still applies to the finished clip.

Ten printed keyframe stills of the same market walk laid in a row beside a tablet showing a 30 second timeline

Is there a free way in

I cannot confirm a public free plan for the new family. The 28 September reports describe a small Flash preview, not a price sheet and not a daily credit grant for every account.

Searches for kling 4.0 free are already filling up with directories. I opened a few. They mix 3.0 credit lore with 4.0 names. That is how people get billed for a model they never ran.

What I can say:

  • Kling has long sold a free-credit layer on older models. That is not proof this version is free for you.
  • Flash is the cheaper, faster sibling in the announcement. “Cheaper” is not “free.”
  • Until Kling publishes a 4.0 membership row, I treat every “unlimited free” headline as unverified.

If you only need a first clip and you do not have Flash, use a live free or trial path on a current model. I already wrote how I spend those first credits in what AI video gen means: three variants, one variable, a written pass line. That method still works. The version number can wait.

How should you use it on a first clip

When I can use Kling 4.0, I will not start with the maximum spec. Thirty seconds of 4K HDR is an expensive way to learn that the face drifted at second 12.

My first pass:

  1. Lock identity. One subject, one still, one 6 to 8 second move. If the face or pack fails, stop.
  2. Add time. Extend to 15 seconds, then 30, without changing the subject.
  3. Add references. Only then load extra stills or a short video. The announced 10 / 5 / 7 stack is for a locked identity, not for a fishing prompt.
  4. Score the same five things I use on any generator: product identity, the main action, readable text, audio if it exists, and cleanup minutes. The pass line stays two of three variants usable, cleanup under one hour.

For a product demo, I still want the object to survive a walk-around. That test is in how AI video generation works. A longer clip does not get a free pass.

If Flash is the only door this week, I will use it for layout and keep the 4K HDR pass for the October default, assuming that split survives launch. I will write down the exact model name on every file. Putting “4.0” on a slide with a Flash render is how teams lie to themselves.

What should you run until October opens

Run the model you can click. On Wizstar that is still Kling 3.0 Omni in the live box, next to Seedance and MiniMax, not a 4.0 row. For a dated table rather than a version chase, I keep the best AI image and video model picks for 2026.

Save four shots now so October is a comparison, not a vibe:

  • Dialogue with a clear mouth.
  • The same person from a wide and a close-up.
  • A hand picking up the product.
  • A pack or UI with readable type.

Those four failed often on 15 second models. They are the reason a 30 second model is worth a calendar invite. They are also the reason I will not swap a live pipeline on announcement day.

That is the method I am using this week: one flash, one October date, one brief on paper. If Flash appears in my account, I run a short identity test. If it does not, I wait for the public launch and keep shipping on models that already render.

FAQ

When does the October launch happen

Kuaishou said October 2026 for the formal launch. Flash opened a limited preview on 28 September 2026. I have not seen a day-of-month on the English homepage.

Can I try it on kling.ai today

Only if your account shows the 4.0 family or Flash. On 29 September the public homepage I loaded still featured Kling 3.0. No selector means no public try.

Is the new model free

Not from the 28 September reports. Those describe a small Flash preview. They do not publish a free-plan credit count or a 4.0 price. Treat kling 4.0 free pages as unverified until Kling posts a membership row.

Is Kling 4K the same as version 4.0

No. Native 4K is a resolution that Kling already shipped on the 3.0 series on 23 April 2026, per the Kling 4K announcement. The 4.0 line is a new model family. 4K describes pixels. 4.0 describes the version.

Can I use Kling 4.0 on Wizstar now

Not as a named 4.0 row. Use the live AI video generator or the Kling 3.0 page for clips you can render today, and replay the same brief when the new model is actually in the box.
